The Senior Class from Poroti School came across a scenic river and waterfall surrounded by high cliffs. Fortunately a log was stretched from both sides so they could cross. Many students attempted unsuccessfully to cross at other points along the river. Matu received the medal for bravery as he dramatically rescued one of his classmates who was perilously holding onto the rocks.

Later the adults arrived on the scene and attempted  to cross far more successfully than the students they were meant to be supervising.
